Events
In order to provide
scholarships to graduate students engaged in the field of mass
spectrometry (as well as gifts to the Boy Scouts of America), the Richard A. Schaeffer Memorial Fund
typicaly held an annual fundraiser event. There are no such events scheduled for 2012.
Annual Spring Fling (April)
The annual Richard A. Schaeffer Memorial Fund Spring Fling was held annually from 2007-2011.
This dinner, dance, and raffle event has taken place at Colton Hall in Claridge, PA. Every April,
several hundred of Rick's family and friends participated in this charitable gathering.
An array of prizes from gift certificates and gift baskets to fine jewelry and signed memorabilia have been
made available over the years by our generous donors. Generally, tickets for these prizes are in the order of $1, $2,
$5, and $10.
Many thanks to all of the people who have donated prizes and money as well as to
those who have worked hard to see the Memorial Fund become a success. Great food, plenty of fun, dancing, and
prizes -- Rick would have loved it!
An Evening at PNC Park - October 27, 2006
This was the first charity event that was held for the Richard A. Schaeffer
Memorial Fund. It was held at PNC Park on October 27, 2006. Many of Rick's
family, friends, and colleagues from work came out for this event.
It was a rewarding night for all whom attended. After dinner, there were various
raffles including the 50/50 that Rick was widely known for selling at his local
church, St. John the Baptist parish. Monte Carlo was the theme of the night, and
guests exchanged their money for play money which was bet on various games such as
Blackjack, Craps, Poker, and Roulette. A night of dancing was enjoyed by all after the prizes and auctions were concluded.
